Grindellodge Bed & Breakfast – Boutique Hotel in Grindelwald
Welcome to Grindellodge Grindelwald, newly renovated in 2025 — a boutique hotel where alpine charm meets Japanese-inspired design.
Grindellodge celebrates the century-long connection between Grindelwald and Japan, where pioneering mountaineers such as Kaga Shōtarō and Maki Yūkō made historic ascents. Today, this bond is honored in a lodge that blends sakura-inspired elegance with alpine warmth.
SwissASAP had the chance to visit and dine at Umami Works, the first Japanese restaurant in Grindelwald, making Grindellodge a true highlight under our Design & Dining hotels.

Umami Works – Grindelwald’s First Japanese Restaurant
Located on the ground floor of Grindellodge, Umami Works introduces authentic Japanese dining to Grindelwald for the first time. Tokyo-native Chef Shota Hasegawa prepares ramen, sushi, tempura, and donburi with a focus on regional ingredients.
Guests can also explore a curated drinks menu of premium sake, Japanese whiskies, and cocktails. On sunny days, the terrace offers the perfect alpine backdrop. Takeaway is also available — ideal for a cozy night in or a quick bite before heading outdoors.
SwissASAP had the opportunity to experience dining at Umami Works, and it stands out as a fresh culinary addition to Grindelwald.

Grindellodge also joins Hotel Glacier Grindelwald in redefining what it means to stay in Grindelwald — where design, dining, and alpine living meet.
Grindellodge Bed & Breakfast combines boutique alpine style with Japanese-inspired design, making it one of the most unique places to stay in Grindelwald. With Umami Works — the village’s first Japanese restaurant — and a private spa for relaxation, it’s more than just a hotel, it’s a destination in itself. For travelers seeking another design-focused stay in the village, we also recommend Hotel Glacier Grindelwald.
And with the Swiss Travel Pass covering your journey to Grindelwald by train, reaching the lodge is as seamless as your stay.
