Hotel Glacier – A Boutique Alpine Stay in Grindelwald
During our Hotels of Distinction editorial visit in July, we discovered Hotel Glacier Grindelwald: a place that embodies the very essence of a boutique hotel in Grindelwald. Newly renovated and already a star in its own right, Glacier combines contemporary alpine design with warm hospitality, Michelin dining, and one of the most serious wine collections in Switzerland. Mornings on the balcony stretched lazily into midday, rainy afternoons became excuses to curl up with a book, and evenings often dissolved into laughter around the bar.

Signature Rooms
Rooms here are retreats, designed as much for lingering as for recovering after alpine adventure. Hardwood floors, bespoke furnishings, soft alpine tones, and backlit mountain motifs reflect the peaks outside. Each bed is a COCO-MAT®, made with natural materials for deep, restorative sleep.
The showpiece: the Signature Rooms, some with private outdoor whirlpools. We spent an evening soaking under the stars, steam curling into the night air, as the Eiger loomed above. On clear mornings, coffee on the balcony lasted longer than planned; on stormy afternoons, reading as clouds rolled past the cliffs felt like its own kind of alpine theater.

Restaurant Glacier Grindelwald — Michelin Dining with Soul
Dinner is the centerpiece of a stay at Glacier. At Restaurant Glacier Grindelwald, a Michelin-recognized kitchen reimagines alpine flavors with modern creativity. One evening we lingered over a summer tasting menu—alpine trout with wild herbs, apricots reinvented into delicate jewels of flavor. Another night, we kept it relaxed at Petit Glacier, where à-la-carte dining on the terrace made the Alps feel like part of the table setting.
After long alpine days, the terrace at Hotel Glacier Grindelwald is the kind of place where time slows. Looking out to the Eiger, it’s easy to settle in with a glass of wine, replay the day’s hike, or simply soak in the hush of the village. Warm afternoons turn it into a gathering spot for guests who prefer lingering in the fresh air.
As night falls, the Glacier Bar comes alive—cocktails, laughter, and conversations that blur the line between locals and travelers. More than a dining room, Glacier feels like the social heartbeat of Grindelwald.

Wine — An Award-Winning Wine List in Switzerland
Wine at Glacier isn’t just a pairing—it’s a culture. With over 600 labels, the cellar has earned the Vinum Award for Best Wine List in Switzerland.
Even as casual drinkers, we were drawn in by the sommelier’s easy storytelling: crisp whites from Valais, bold reds from Ticino, and international surprises that complemented every plate. One evening turned into three hours, as we shared flights with fellow guests and toasted the mountains outside.

Spa & Wellness — Your Grindelwald Spa Hotel Retreat
Adventure fills the days here, but Glacier balances it with stillness. The spa is compact yet thoughtful: a pine sauna, hammam, quiet lounge with waterbeds, and an open-air whirlpool heated to 37 °C with the Eiger looming overhead.
On a rainy July day, we spent the morning between sauna and whirlpool, then slipped into the small but modern gym for a light workout. It felt indulgent not to leave the property—and in Grindelwald, that’s saying something. This is what makes Glacier stand out as a true Grindelwald spa hotel: not grandeur, but intimacy with a view.

Easy Access to the Jungfrau Region
What makes Glacier such a perfect base is how easy it makes exploring the Bernese Alps. From Interlaken Ost, trains bring you to Grindelwald in just over 30 minutes. From there, the hotel is minutes away.
High Alps: Grindelwald Terminal & Eiger Express → Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe in only 15 minutes.
Playground: Grindelwald First — hikes, zip lines, cliff walk (family guide here).
Hiking: Jungfrau hiking trails — panoramic walks from Eigergletscher to Kleine Scheidegg.
Nearby valleys: Lauterbrunnen’s waterfalls, Mürren, and the Schilthorn are all within easy reach.
Whether you’re in Grindelwald for adrenaline or slow exploration, Glacier’s location makes every day effortless.
