Hello, adventurers! I’m Charlotte Sutton from the SwissASAP team, here to share my unforgettable hike on one of the most scenic Jungfrau Region hiking trails. With the Swiss Travel Pass 2025, getting around was seamless—from the vibrant Grindelwald Terminal to the panoramic trail from Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg. The journey begins with the Männlichen cable car, which offers a 50% discount with your pass—an effortless and scenic way to reach the trailhead. This classic Bernese Oberland hike is perfect for anyone dreaming of a Swiss alpine trail filled with mountain views and fresh air.
An Overview of the Journey Through the Jungfrau Railway
On June 6th last year, the weather was perfect for a hiking trip. Starting from the picturesque town of Interlaken, the Swiss Travel Pass made it easy to explore the heart of the Swiss Alps. Our day began at Interlaken Ost, where we met our guide from Jungfrau Railway—the operator behind the legendary route to Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe.
The Adventure Begins: Grindelwald Terminal to Männlichen
We took a scenic train ride to Grindelwald Terminal, a modern base station that connects visitors to several alpine destinations. From there, we boarded the Männlichen cable car (GGM) and began our hike to Kleine Scheidegg. This popular Jungfrau Region hiking trail offers breathtaking views and takes about an hour and a half to complete.

The Heart of the Adventure: Hiking from Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg
After reaching Männlichen via the scenic Männlichen cable car, we laced up our boots for the highlight of the day: hiking the 4.5 km Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg trail. This path is among the most stunning in the Jungfrau Region, offering sweeping views of the legendary Alpine trio—Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau.
The hike took us around 1.5 hours, though we made plenty of stops to breathe in the crisp mountain air and snap photos of the panorama. The trail is wide, well-marked, and suitable for all experience levels. Best of all, getting here was completely stress-free thanks to the Swiss Travel Pass, which covered all our train rides from Interlaken to Grindelwald and offered discounted fares on the Männlichen cable car to reach the trailhead.
Whether you’re a casual walker or a dedicated hiker, this Swiss alpine trail delivers both beauty and accessibility. And once we reached Kleine Scheidegg, the adventure was far from over…

The Culinary Stop: Lunch at Kleine Scheidegg
After completing the 4.5 km Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg hike, we took a well-earned break and grabbed a light lunch at one of the small eateries near the station. Kleine Scheidegg is more than just a viewpoint — it’s the main interchange station for travelers heading up or down to Jungfraujoch via the traditional cogwheel train.
On a clear blue-sky day, the atmosphere here is spectacular. With the iconic peaks of Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau towering above, hikers, families, and photo-takers gather outside to soak up the view. In winter, the area transforms into a lively ski and sledging zone — with slopes right by the station and people zipping past while others sip hot chocolate on the terrace.
It’s the kind of place where you can stay for just 15 minutes — or spend hours watching the alpine world go by.
Ascending to the Top of Europe: Jungfraujoch
After lunch at Kleine Scheidegg, we boarded the historic cogwheel train to Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe. As we climbed higher through the Alpine landscape, each turn revealed more spectacular views — including the vast Aletsch Glacier, the longest glacier in the Alps.
At 3,454 meters above sea level, Jungfraujoch greeted us with its iconic mix of snow, sky, and glass. We explored the Ice Palace, took in the views from the Sphinx Observatory, and even stepped outside onto the glacier plateau to breathe in the crisp, thin air. Whether you’re after photo spots, interactive exhibits, or simply that once-in-a-lifetime feeling of standing on top of the Alps — this place delivers.
The Return: Eiger Express and Lauterbrunnen
After our visit to Jungfraujoch, we began the return leg of our journey. A short cogwheel ride brought us to Eigergletscher, where we boarded the Eiger Express — a sleek gondola that whisked us down to Grindelwald Terminal in just 15 minutes. Compared to the traditional descent by train, this fast and scenic route felt like a bonus adventure in itself.
Before calling it a day, we made a spontaneous detour to the breathtaking Lauterbrunnen Valley. With its dramatic cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and fairytale charm, even a short walk here left a deep impression.
We wrapped up the evening with a hearty dinner at Harder Kulm, overlooking Interlaken from above as the lights flickered on below — the perfect end to a full and unforgettable day in the Bernese Oberland.
